Celebrating the fourth with barbequed food is actually a long-standing Southern tradition, and one that dates back to the very beginning of our country.

Keep reading to learn more about the tradition of good ol’ fashioned barbecue during Independence Day celebrations. If your mouth starts to water (we won’t blame you if it does), curb your cravings with Spring Creek barbecue - the best barbeque near me!

The Tradition of Barbecue

Independence Day marks the July 4th, 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence, which signifies the separation of the United States from Great Britain. By the 1820s, celebrations on the 4th of July had become widespread. Descriptions across the South read nearly identical; detailing parades, community barbecues, and singing of patriotic songs.

Since the meat was donated by members of the community, these massive outdoor feasts were free to all comers, using whatever local farmers had on hand. Everything from chickens and pigs to goats and whole steers ended up roasting over wood coals in long pits in the ground. Non perishable items, loaves of bread, and watermelon were served alongside. After the feast, toasts from prominent members of the community and ‘volunteers’ commenced, always concluding with 13 to honor the 13 original colonies.

A message about COVID-19

Please keep in mind that some of our locations are temporarily closed due to evolving restrictions. Learn what we’re doing to keep our environment safe.

Due to the COVID-19 impact on meat packing plants across the nation, beef supply and brisket have been driven to historic highs. In an effort to stay in business and continue offering high-quality brisket, Spring Creek Barbecue has been forced to temporarily change the price on select brisket menu items.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to work together through these very difficult times.
